Giving back to our local community is something we feel strongly about at Clownfish. In fact, it is one of our five core values - so we are delighted to introduce you to our Charity Partner of the year, Eikon.
Eikon is an award-winning organisation that provides long term support to vulnerable youngsters in Surrey (where the Clownfish office is based), helping them to develop into happy, thriving and resilient young adults who make a positive contribution to society.
CEO Chris Hickford explains, "Eikon is proactive. We aim to get involved before problems escalate. This is what differentiates us from many other service providers that tend to be reactive and thus support a young person only after a crisis has occurred. Eikon attempts to tackle the root cause of the problem, not just the effects.
Eikon is relational, not transactional. Our doors don’t close if young people fail to complete paperwork or miss an appointment. We provide intensive, unconditional support for young people when they need it, for as long as they need it."
It is this understanding and empathy for individuals that first resonated with Clownfish’s Managing Director. Matt is a firm believer in supporting his employees and giving them opportunities to prove themselves professionally, always looking beyond a dazzling CV to understand the person behind the paperwork.
The fact that Eikon works in the area where Clownfish HQ is located was another important factor. Chris continues, "Eikon meets young people where they are. We work in schools, local neighbourhoods and with families to make sure we are there when young people need us.
No matter how a young person reaches out to Eikon, there are no wrong doors and no strings attached to our services. We are available at any time of the day with no form filling or waiting lists; there are no obstacles to the support that we offer."
Awesome stuff, don’t you think? We’re very excited to be helping Chris and the team at Eikon and have already started making some plans. In 2018, Clownfish will fund and host:
- A Colour Run event designed for the whole family to get involved
- A fund-raising Winter Wonderland Gala Ball
- Various work experience opportunities at Clownfish Events
Our MD, Matt Turner, has just been approved to become a mentor to some of the young people that Eikon works with and will start training for this role in the summer. He has even agreed to run the 2019 London Marathon on their behalf - follow his journey from desk to 26.2 miles here.
