Matt takes a look back on 2018…
The Clownfish Events crew is bigger and stronger than ever. We now have a permanent team of nine based out of our warehouse and offices in Chessington, plus a raft of event hosts and brand ambassadors that you’ll see out and about at events.
It has been a year of consolidation, rather than recruitment, with our event specialists taking on new challenges and getting more involved with event design as well as management. I give myself a big pat on the back for hiring Sara as my PA, though. She has made a huge difference in the office, keeping me organised and making sure all my bright ideas are seen through to completion.
We have loved every minute of working on your events this year. Highlights include the incredible Shinyo-en Festival of Joy in the summer; the BOSH! book launch at Borough Market; and the very special wedding of our own Operations Director, Alasdair, to Anna-Grace.
We have partied at 18th birthdays, judged corporate cake competitions, referee-d sports day races for grown-ups and wiped away a tear at father-of-the-bride speeches. There’s no better job in the world!
2018 saw us appoint our first ‘charity partner of the year’. We have been working with Eikon since the spring and, with their help, have found effective ways to give something back to our community. In April, I will be running the London Marathon to raise funds for Eikon; and I have completed mentoring training with them so that I can start to support a disadvantaged young person taking the first steps into a career.
In 2019, Clownfish Events will celebrate its 10th birthday. This is a big milestone for us, as it would be for any small business. I started with nothing more than a paper round, so we’ll definitely be pulling out all the stops in April to mark a decade of all things Clownfish. But for now, its time for us to head off for a well-earned rest. Our offices will be closed from Friday 21st December and will reopen on Monday 7th January. From all of us at Clownfish, a very Merry Christmas and a happy, healthy and fun-filled New Year!
