Transforming town centres with magic, sparkle and plenty of faux snow.

The brief

Each November, Love Wimbledon’s Christmas event for the local community kicks off the festive season in SW19. With much of the main shopping area closed to traffic for the day, thousands of visitors are treated to live performances, side stalls and a fireworks display as they stroll through the streets and browse market stalls.

With a focus on families having fun together, Clownfish creates a safe environment where everyone can enjoy a packed programme of entertainment and get properly into the Christmas spirit.

Event design

Finding the right rides and attractions is the easy part – our Rodeo Reindeer and Snowboard Simulator are always a hit with the kids (and the grown-ups!). Last year we brought along our giant Snow Globe and a professional photographer to create and capture some magical family moments. Snow machines and twinkling festoon lighting add the essential finishing touches.

Production planning

This is where things can get complicated. Creating an electrical plan for a large site is akin to rewiring your house, so there is a fair amount of pre-work required to calculate cable runs and plan consumption. Safety is paramount at a large public gathering, so we also factor in the right amount of cable protection to eliminate trip hazards.

Technical challenges

How do you expand the reach of an event without laying hundreds of metres of cabling? With a wireless, bi-directional radio link. Live performances can be broadcast to a wider audience, and everyone can hear the fireworks countdown no matter where they stand. Geektastic.
